Trailing Watermelon

Trailing Watermelon

Pellionia repens (recently reclassified to Procris repens) is a gorgeous and super easy to grow terrarium plant. It’s often called the “Trailing Watermelon Begonia” despite not being a begonia at all (or a watermelon for that matter) for it’s begonia like asymmetrical leaf growth and deep watermelon rind colours.

Pellonia is usually utilized in hanging baskets but also works well in terrariums. This herbaceous perennial hails from the family Urticaceae and has a low growing (3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15 cm.)) habit with spreading or creeping tendencies (1 to 2 feet (0.5 m.)), making Pellonia useful as a ground cover in appropriate climates.
